Science Museum İzmir
On March 11, 2009, Karşıyaka Municipality opened the first science museum in the Aegean region in Mavişehir, Turkey. The museum, which was established in cooperation with Bahçeşehir Colleges, operates on a 750 square meter area owned by the municipality. The museum aims to allow people of all ages, from 7 to 70, to learn about the principles and theories that form the basis of science through observation and experimentation using the “Discovery Method”. As of the beginning of 2014, the museum had received over 75,000 visitors from various parts of the Aegean region.
The museum features 60 learning stations, nearly 100 experimental setups, and around 15 interactive kiosks that are designed to teach the basic principles of science and technology to people of all ages, with a focus on the 12-15 age group. The learning stations can be visited in groups and are accompanied by expert guides who provide narration. In addition to these exhibits, the museum also hosts workshops, events, experiment shows, and science activities on stage to further engage visitors and encourage their curiosity in science. The museum plans to include a mini observatory with a telescope in the future.
Museum visits are organized in groups and by appointment with expert guides. For individual visits, a group of at least 6 people is required. In the center, which serves between 10.00-17.00 on weekdays, training is provided in the morning between 10.00-11.00 / 11.15-12.15 and in the afternoon between 13.45-14.45/15.00-16.00.
