Book and Paper Arts Museum

The Ege University Museum of Paper and Book Arts presents visitors with examples from different cultures of the indispensable treasures of paper and book from the past 2000 years of world cultural history. The museum, which addresses students at all levels of education with its information and visuals, is unique in its international position as a university museum that deals with the subject in such dimensions and richness, in addition to being the first in Turkey. The Museum of Paper and Book Arts was opened at Ege University on December 12, 2012.

 

 

The museum is located in the 19th century Ballian House, one of the old Levantine mansions affiliated with Ege University. The museum, which also includes an art gallery, brings together around 1000 objects donated by individuals, institutions, and artists. 

 

On the ground floor of the museum, where various stages from the production of paper to the point of an art work are exhibited, there are sections for handmade paper production demonstration room, organic writing materials, colorful papers of the world, contemporary colorful paper artists, and modern paper art. On the upper floor, there are sections for book arts, exlibris, printing, artist books, children’s books, book forms, masters in books, printing techniques, miniature books, and typography.
